Threatrix & Ginger Introduction

Threatrix focuses on creating advanced open-source security, license compliance, and supply chain risk management tools that secure the software of industry-leading companies with enterprise-class solutions. Their autonomous open-source management platform focuses on speed, holistic accuracy, and automation.

The team at Threatrix approached us with the information they needed to revamp their branding, various graphic design needs, and a new website. Their solutions were starting to launch off and about to compete for additional funding, and our first task was to create a modern look that would represent their story and pop-off in the sea of other companies. After that, we did a complete redesign and development of the website. Threatrix team insisted we keep it as a static website with WordPress powering their blog, and we executed it precisely like that.

Threatrix Branding Journey

We kicked off initial meetings with John and Kristen and tried learning as much as possible about their company, previous branding efforts, what worked for them and what did not. We learned about their old logo, color schemes, typography, and design elements used in their materials.

Their old logo was too similar to one of the IT companies, potentially representing a problem. In our information-gathering meetings, they were clear about the constraints they had in mind: we were not to use familiar icons in InfoSec industries: no shields, keys, keyholes, etc. We were to create a reasonably abstract logo yet convey their story: Threatrix created an advanced AI-powered platform focusing on supply chain security, open-source security, and risk management.

Presentation

Threatrix Icon (Mark)

We agreed to start with the icon design by creating three concepts for them. After the initial two meetings with their team, we felt we had enough information to begin.

After we created the concepts, the Threatrix team agreed that we were on the right path, and they chose one concept to be developed into their new logo. They wanted us to showcase their focus on intelligent, open-source interconnectivity and incorporate a supply chain idea into the icon. Our research showed that they loved using a globe with linked nodes, which is exactly how we came up with the idea for the chosen concept, by following closely their feedback. After three iterations of the chosen concept, we were all on the same page, and the Threatrix team was sure they had their new icon.

Our designer listened to what the Threatrix team wanted and applied his ideas and best practices in mark creation. We created an icon that used negative space, perspective, and geometry to carefully create rich dimensionality and tell a story about Threatrix. The supply chain is represented both in negative space and connected nodes in the icon, and together with the curvature of the icon and warped perspective, we represented the globe with nodes connected, which showcases the scalability of Threatrix.

The following steps for us were completing the logo with a sharp, modern font and picking the right color palette.

Threatrix Typography and Color Palette

The fonts and color palette were a much easier task for us compared to the icon. We understood what Threatrix needed well and got the right matching with the mark fairly quickly.

The color palette creation was something that we especially enjoyed. Our research found that cybersecurity and Information Security companies split work into different domains, usually separated into teams, which are represented in colors. Threatrix is in the domain of the green infosec team as a connection between blue and yellow teams. They focus on enhancing code-based and design-based defense capability for detection, incident response, and digital forensics, thus improving the detection capabilities.

We created three color palettes, and the Threatrix team agreed that the one representing their core position in the industry with the primary green color was perfect. We tested different shades of primary green and secondary yellow. We agreed to proceed with #73DD08 primary green and #FFA113 secondary orange-yellow to add more alertness and warmth to the color palette on top of the neutral palette we created.

Branding

Threatrix team felt we were on point, and we created various mockups of their new logo, which showcased the visibility and all the qualities of the icon from the smallest applications to the large focused ones.

We finalized the branding task for Threatrix by creating the various applications of the logo and its variations. The logo design was now done!

Threatrix Website Design and Development Journey

Threatrix Mac

The Threatrix team contains proficient coders and application developers. Still, they felt that their website needed to be updated and that it would be better value for them to focus on the internals of their tools and hand off the website design and development to domain experts. They chose to proceed with Ginger.

As we had already created their branding and some graphic materials, we had an excellent idea of the design choices that Threatrix needed. As timing was of the essence, their team instructed us to forego the classic web design path and create a new Home landing page first, followed by a Blog collection and single page, and only then to design the rest of the website and rework the home page to incorporate everything, as they needed it with extremely short deadline for the upcoming events and marketing efforts.

We worked with the team to understand what will be removed from the content on the existing website, what will be reworked, and what will be added. We created a new sitemap that we followed in the design and development phase.

Initial Landing Page

With the color palette we created and the information we received, we knew Threatrix wanted a modern, slick design with clean messaging, plenty of graphics, and textured backgrounds.

Each landing page section was carefully created, with graphics specifically designed for each story. Our designers used AI generation to quickly create hundreds of ideas and help pinpoint the right ones for Threatrix elements’ graphical representation.

We got everything designed and developed as a static page with custom PHP functions in the backend just in time for the Threatrix team to use.

After we were done with the urgent development, we could continue redesigning the remainder of the website.

We followed our tried and tested path. We gathered information from Threatrix, discussed the pros and cons of various design choices, created designs, tested them with the Threatrix team, reworked them, and, when accepted, passed them to development.

The entire website was to be recreated following consistently clear messaging, custom graphics, and smooth animations. We applied our experience and expertise and created what the Threatrix team needed. The custom static website we developed had everything the Threatrix team required, representing the perfect baseline to boost their upcoming growth.

One of the requirements of the Threatrix team was to create dynamic landing page template for white-paper downloading and as an email magnet. Our team developed custom PHP functionality according the requirements and Threatrix is now able to create and track unlimited number of dynamic landing pages for all of their white-papers.

Blog Showcase

Threatrix Blog was done in WordPress, and we revamped it to follow the design. We wanted to make sure their future SEO work was prepared for success, and we added features like an Article author box, creation and update date, and proper featured images. On top of everything, we restructured their articles to follow the adequate heading structure.
