As technical partners, we worked on an announcement website for a large American nonprofit – New Profit’s 25th-anniversary event, as well as an event website and an exciting experiential app that was placed during the event on large touchscreen monitors.
Partners we work with mentioned that they were looking for a provider that would develop multiple microsites as well as someone who would create a solution that would be used on the large digital billboard displays at the event as a way to give the attendees the ability to learn more about the New Profit story.
Our extensive experience developing solutions for nonprofit organizations gave us a significant edge over other vendors as we understood the requirements perfectly, as well as the importance of timely execution.
Development for digital billboards was familiar to us as well, and we were sure that we could execute the task at hand.
An essential aspect of this project was the confidence our partners had in us to recommend us to New Profit as technological partners that will be able to execute the required tasks to perfection on a very tight deadline.
Our approach, experience, and ability to quickly execute analysis and plan for development of the required solutions ensured that our partners and New Profit had three platforms developed, tested, and deployed to production on time.
Due to the nature of the experiential event, we were there for New Profit to ad-hoc fine-tune our billboard display app after it was determined in on-site testing that additional adjustments were required. This level of preparation and dedication ensured the event went flawlessly, and our display app was a hit of the night.
The first task at hand was the development of the announcement website. We received the designs from our partners and quickly developed a solution in WordPress that enabled New Profit stakeholders to tell a story about their upcoming event, agenda, and attendees, as well as answer any questions their guests would have.
Using ACF blocks with tabs, we created a simple interface to add an increasing number of attendees and FAQ items.
The most exciting part of this project was developing the site that will be used in kiosk mode on large 70” UHD touchscreen displays.
The task in front of us was to develop the main page with stories in a grid layout that could be touched and opened. Then, when the attendees are not interacting with the touchscreen display for a certain amount of time, a popup would ask if they want to keep reading. If no interaction were given, an attention-grabbing “screen saver” would turn on, shuffling through intro story cards, from where the attendee could return to the previous read story, go to the primary grid, or read the current story on the screen saver.
As this was feature-wise reasonably simple, we again decided to give the clients the ability to easily modify everything by creating the solution using WordPress. All the content and every timing were fully editable in the WordPress dashboard, and on top of it, we created the ability to switch the “screen saver” from day (light theme) to night (dark theme).
We had to pay special attention to the requirement that this solution was going to be used on a massive 3840 x 2160 display in portrait mode by touch. During the app development in collaboration with the display supplying vendor, it was agreed that smaller 50” displays would work better at the event, so we made sure that everything was rendering properly at smaller physical display size as well.
To complement the event, we were tasked to create a public-facing website that would tell the stories in a similar manner as the touchscreen app. Once again, we decided to proceed with WordPress, and we recreated the experience with some added sections and design elements.
The announcement website was used to help attendees register and prepare for the event as intended.
As we finished developing the touchscreen app and event site, we stayed at hand with the supporting vendors and suppliers to ensure the expected quality of experience at the New Profit event. Ultimately, our websites were fantastically accepted, and the eye-grabbing touchscreen experience we created for the event was a hit.
Attendees had access to multiple displays at the event where they could read more about the stories behind New Profit and what makes it a great organization. Both the New Profit team and our partners had many kind words to say about our work, which makes us at Ginger extraordinarily proud and eager to embark on the next journey with our nonprofit partners!
